Silhouette shooting is a sport that will improve your shooting skills in a hurry. A standard silhouette match is 40 rounds fired at four types of steel targets at four distances. There are 10 each of chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams. Distances and target size varies according to the guns used. For International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association (IHMSA) matches, .22 pistols shoot 3/8 size targets in this order: chickens at 25 meters, pigs at 50 meters, turkeys at 75 meters and rams at 100 meters. Big bore (centerfire) pistols shoot full size targets at 50, 100, 150 and 200 meters. National Rifle Association (NRA) Hunters Pistol shooters shoot ½ size targets at 40, 50, 75 and 100 meters. Rifle shooters shoot 1/8 size .22 targets at 40, 50, 76 and 100 meters. High Power Rifle shooters fire at full size targets at 200, 300, 385 and 500 meters. All rifle shooting is off hand.
Silueta (silhouette) shooting was originally introduced in Mexico, later imported to the USA, and now is shot all over the world. The competition is designed for all shooters and all experience levels. Each shooter competes only against other shooters classified in the same class. The expertise of each shooter is evidenced by their classification book which is updated each time they shoot.

F-Class is a precision, long-range rifle discipline where competitors fire from a prone (lying down) position at targets between 300 and 1,200 yards away. Founded by George Farquharson in Canada in 1995, it was designed to keep shooters competitive by allowing the use of high-magnification scopes and specialized front rests or bipods. All rifles are single feed and are loaded/fired one round at a time. F-Class matches at CTSA are fired at 500 yards, and so are classified as mid-range.
As of 2026, competitors are categorized into two general divisions by specific equipment and caliber rules:
F-Class tournaments generally consist of 3 matches shot on the same day. Each match consists of 20 rounds fired for record (total of 60 rounds). The first match also allows unlimited sighter rounds, which the second and third matches of the day are limited to two non-convertable sighters each.
